HALLELUJAH! Jesus Youth celebrate Vatican recognition
Jesus Youth Delhi organized “Hallelujah” – a grand event in the capital, celebrating the official recognition of the movement as an International Private Association of the Faithful, with juridical personality in Canon Law. This event on 19th June 2016 saw close to 600 people including priests & religious, families, youth and kids who gathered together at the Diocesan Community Centre in Sacred Heart Cathedral premises in Delhi.
Jesus Youth is the first movement from India and the second in Asia to receive such a Pontifical approval and this was indeed a cause of celebration for the Church in India. People from across North India including Jaipur, Ajmer, Lucknow, Chandigarh, Calcutta, came to celebrate this historic recognition for the Jesus Youth movement and remembered the nostalgic journey of days gone by.
The day began with the commissioning of the 18 participants of the Discipleship Training Programme 2016 followed by the lighting of the lamp by His Grace Archbishop Abraham Viruthakulangara (Archbishop of Nagpur Archdiocese and Ecclesiastical Advisor of Jesus Youth), CC Joseph (JY International Coordinator) Charles Bastian (JY India Coordinator) and Jim Isaac (JY Delhi coordinator).
The praise and worship was led by Jim Isaac along with Acts of the Apostles, the outreach band of JY Delhi Music Ministry. Thereafter, key JY leaders who contributed to the mission in North India were felicitated. Various leaders, family and friends associated with the movement shared their joy through short messages. Cyril John (Chairman, NCCRS) spoke about the commitment he had seen in Jesus Youth. Manoj Sunny (Director, JY International Formation) and CC Joseph shared about the journey towards this recognition. They also answered the queries from the audience regarding the meaning and implications of this recognition for the movement. During the Shepherd’s Speak panel, His Grace Archbishop Abraham motivated everyone. Rev. Msgr. Henryk gave the message on behalf of His Ex. Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio, the Apostolic Nuncio, who through his letter imparted the Apostolic Blessing of Holy Father Pope Francis. Rev. Msgr. Jose Edassery (Vicar General, Faridabad Eparchy) and Rev. Fr. Sam Pathackal (Coordinator, Delhi region, Gurgaon Eparchy) also gave their messages congratulating the movement.
His Grace Archbishop Anil Couto (Archbishop of Delhi Archdiocese) celebrated the Holy Mass along with His Grace Archbishop Vincent Concessao (Archbishop Emeritus of Delhi Archdiocese), Archbishop Abraham Viruthakulangara and many priests. The bishops reminded the Jesus Youth of their mission, and also mentioned the need for Jesus Youth to reach out more effectively to parishes imparting faith-formation to the youth.
“Hallelujah” was indeed overwhelming with everyone singing, dancing and proclaiming the great things that the Lord has been doing. With gratitude in every heart and prayers for a blessed future ahead the event concluded with a fellowship dinner.
Mary, Queen of the Apostles, pray that every Jesus Youth be transformed by the power of Pentecost and sent forth to be true ‘missionary disciples’ of your son Jesus.
